Insighters received a finalist award at the AI Northern Ireland Datathon in Belfast.

Insighters won McKinsey’s Hack the Crash at HackUPC after a weekend full of challenges and events at Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona.
We finished Runners Up at the Digital Edu Hack 2019 in Trinity College Dublin. We built a ChatBot for miners to report hazards in realtime using Computer Vision. Check out our Github repo here
Team OnBank received a Special Mention at Edinburgh’s Hackathon organized by Royal Bank of Scotland. Amazing weekend in Edinburgh where we learn more about banking, Fintech and #BankingTheUnbanked.
Team LoanDog won Ulter Bank’s Fintech Hackathon hosted in Dogpatch Labs. Amazing weekend! Our solution was to support students getting a loan by building a digital footprint with banking and social data to predict their creditworthiness.

In March 2019, I went back to Arizona State University to attend the 9th. International Conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge in Tempe, Arizona, USA. My advisor, Prof Alan Smeaton, also attended the conference.
As part of the Huawei’s Future of Vision Challenge, my team Insighters won a trip to China to visit Huawei as well as the other first three teams.
My team BlindSpotAI, a Deep Learning Object Recogizer App, competed at the StartUp Weekend in Google Dublin sponsored by Bank of Ireland.

In July 2018, I co-organized and presented at the Educational Data Mining in Computer Science Education (CSEDM 2018) Workshop. This was done in conjunction with EDM 2018 at The University at Buffalo, New York, United States. The objective of the workshop was to facilitate a discussion among our research community around Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Computer Science Education.
In June 2018, I attended the 19th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED 2018) in London, UK. It was a great experience where I presented some of my work around modelling student learning in McGrawHill’s ALEKS platform used for Arizona State University’s GFA Math courses.
I was invited to speak at ASU’s EdPlus where I talked about my projects in Educational Data Mining & Personalized Learning, Representational Learning using embeddings, Transfer Learning for image analysis and Network Representations.
Higher Education in the US is unfortunately only accessible to a minority. I have been volunteering in a local low-income middle-school in the Tempe (Arizona, US) where I lead a group of students and we teach students technology in a fun way!
Recently, I teamed up with two friends (one is an Argentinian Fulbrighter) and submitted a project to Microsoft 2018 Imagine’s Cup. We developed, Prometheus, a Fire Detection software powered by AI. We combine surveillance drone capabilities with concepts of Deep Learning to create software that detects early-stage wildfires.
One of the best experiences of my time in the US has been attending the Fulbright Enrichment seminar in Philadelphia around Big Data for the Public Good. Philadelphia is an iconic city where you can visit the Liberty Bell or the Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed.
I attended the 2018 Higher Education Data Warehousing Forum at Oregon State University with a team from ASU’s University Technology Office.
In March 2018, I attended the 8th. International Conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge in Sydney, Australia. I presented a joint workshop paper with Dr.Sharon Hsiao, Assistant Professor at ASU’s School of Computing, and that extended paper has been accepted to International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education (ijAIED). It was a great experience where I met incredible researchers doing really impressive work in a great environment.
I attended 2017 Amazon’s ReInvent Conference in Las Vegas. My advisor at Arizona State University, John Rome, presented how ASU is working with Amazon to create the first voice-enabled campus. Read more details here. The voice-enabled devices becoming more prevalent in our connected world, it only makes sense to bring these capabilities to a university campus.
This academic year I have the opportunity to inmerse myself in the American culture while on my Fulbright program. I could not be more thankful to my advisor John Rome and his family for their continous support, and all the friends and people I met here in the US. Thank you!
I got a scholarship from ODSC Selection Committee to attend their San Francisco Conference as an invited student with my Fulbright friend Alicia Tan.
In September 2017, I attended the 12th. European Conference on Technology Enchanced Learning in Estonia. It was a great experience where I presented some of my work around detecting patterns of success on a variety of Computer Science courses.
I had the opportunity to showcase my work at this year’s Data Summit in Dublin. The theme of this year’s summit was “What does the Data Society mean to you?” and presented an opportunity for hear leading international, European and Irish speakers debate the social, technical, ethical and cultural issues that arise in the context of our world of total connectivity.
I have been awarded with a Fulbright scholarship to conduct research as a visiting scholar in Arizona State University. I could not be happier!
I was set for a career working in the IT industry with a good, secure position in IBM Ireland. While working for IBM I pursued a Masters in Data Analytics at Dublin City University on a part-time basis. I also started interacting with researchers at DCU such as my current advisor Prof Alan Smeaton and a Master’s lecturer Kevin Casey. The power and potential of applying Artificial Intelligence techniques to areas like Education captivated me and I decided to pursue a PhD in DCU with my advisor’s encouragement and backing.
In April 2015, my roommates and I participated in a Hackathon in Dublin City University. They were PhD students at the Adapt Centre and their work focused on Natural Langugage Processing for search and translation. At that time, I was a full-time Software Engineer at IBM and a part-time Master’s student in Data Analytics at the same university.
